Salumeria Italiana

Located on the Foods of the Freedom Trail walking tour, Salumeria Italiana is a food shop rich in tradition and the finest foods from Italy and the Mediterranean that you will find anywhere in America. It is a favorite of locals and tourists alike and has even caught the attention of celebrity chefs.

Since 1962, Salumeria has been known as the place to go for authentic Italian and Mediterranean food in Boston's North End neighborhood. The owner, Gaetano Marignetti, is the son of founders Ermino and Vanda Marignetti. They wanted to open their own shop so their little boy could experience the authentic foods of their homeland. He was able to do just that and now on the Foods of the Freedom Trail tour, you can too.

Salumeria carries only the best pasta, olive oils, vinegars and other staples in addition to many specialty items. Their food is high quality, fresh, authentic and taste tested by either their staff or regulars who shop there on a weekly basis, so you know that you are getting food products that are tried and true.

If this is your first venture into the world of Italian and Mediterranean cooking, Salumeria has a chef on hand to answer any questions you have about your purchases. Chef Raymond Gillespie was trained in Europe before he was executive chef at Mama Maria's in the North End. Now he shares his expertise with you.

Do you need inspiration? Salumeria's website is full of authentic recipes for you to try at home. If you need more help, Salumeria offers cooking classes on how to make pasta, sauces, risotto and other authentic Italian dishes.

If you are just visiting Boston, you can still get a taste of Salumeria after you return home. Shop on their website, place your order, and Salumeria will quickly mail your order to anywhere in the United States.

Salumeria has been featured on food shows on both PBS and the Travel Channel. If the professional's love it, we bet you will too. After your Freedom Trail walking tour, be sure to visit Salumeria again, whether in person or on their website, and bring a little bit of authentic Italy home to your kitchen.
